The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, is being urged to reconsider the definition of infertility used by the health plan for city employees.
The plan currently only funds IVF when infertility is demonstrated by a failure to concieve after 12 months of heterosexual intercourse, or untrauterine insemination, effectively excluding gay and single men (see BioNews 1238).
The City Council's LGBTQIA+ Caucus is pushing for a more inclusive definition of infertility to be adopted.
